1895 45/70 with 16" barrel?

Post by NGaMtnHunter »

Hello folks, I'm new here but not new to Marlins. I been hunten with and collecten Marlins for 35 years. I dont know much about the 1895's, did Marlin make a 1895 45/70 with a 16" barrel in the 1970's? A friend of mine has a 1895 45/70 that the barrel wus cut down to 16" it's a 1977 year mod. I wus wonderen if one ever come from the Marlin factory with a 16" barrel?

There may have been a limited edition 1895 in the last few years that I am not aware of (a Trapper model?) but from the 1970s timeframe that was not an original offering. In fact, I am not aware of any 1895s with original barrels less than 20" thru the 1990s. In 1963-64, the Marlin 336 Marauder was offered in 30-30 and 35 Remington with 16.25" barrels.
