Marlin 33C from ‘51

I have an H stamped Marlin336c in 35 Remington that I inherited from a family member. This gun is very very clean and in superb condition as it sat in a safe for decades. This gun means a lot to me, and I would like to use it for deer here in SW Pa and teaching my son to hunt. Being a family gun, I will never sell it. I have only hunted with synthetic stock rifles, and would like some input on hunting using this Marlin if conditions happen to turn to precipitation? How do you all prepare your rifles for the elements?
